PRP Q & A

What is PRP?

PRP is an innovative rejuvenation technique that enhances your body’s natural healing powers. Dr. Mann harvests the PRP she uses for your treatment from the healing factors in your own blood. It contains a high concentration of your blood’s healing properties, including platelets, growth factors, and specialized cells.

When used for treatment, PRP accelerates your body’s natural healing process, to help make new tissues, that can even promote healthy skin and hair growth.

How does PRP work?

PRP works by providing your body with the tools it needs to reconstruct and create healthy cells and tissue to replace diseased or damaged tissue.

When you come to Juvenate Medical Wellness & Rejuvenation for PRP, Dr. Mann begins by first drawing a small amount of blood from your arm, less than what’s needed for routine blood tests. The blood is then placed in a vial and spun in a centrifuge to separate the healing cells from the plasma, which is the liquid portion of your blood. This platelet-rich plasma is also known as "liquid gold" and activates the healing properties of your own cells.

What medical conditions benefit from PRP?

Dr. Mann uses PRP to treat many medical conditions. Some of the health issues that benefit from PRP include:

  • Arthritis and joint problems
  • Chronic pain
  • Musculoskeletal injuries
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Sexual health

Dr. Mann also offers PRP injections to women experiencing urinary incontinence and issues with sexual health, such as vaginal dryness and laxity.

When used for a medical condition, Dr. Mann injects the PRP directly into the diseased or damaged tissue. She uses a local anesthetic before she injects the PRP to ease any discomfort.

The results from the PRP are subtle and improve gradually over time. You may begin to notice an improvement in health and function about 3-4 weeks after your injection. To get the most out of your PRP, Dr. Mann may recommend repeat injections.

What are the aesthetic uses of PRP?

Dr. Mann also uses PRP for aesthetic purposes, including:

  • Facial rejuvenation and improved elasticity of aging skin
  • Overall skin health
  • Hair loss and scalp health
  • Breast rejuvenation

The healing cells in the PRP activate production of collagen, which is the protein in your skin that provides strength and structure. Dr. Mann injects the PRP directly into the skin to get the desired results. Juvenate Medical is the only practice that uses nitrous oxide to help make the procedure more comfortable for their patients.
